Barefoot Deep Tissue Massage
In barefoot ashiatsu, the therapist uses bars above the table to use the feet and body weight to gracefully work the body. This technique allows for gradual, deep pressure with long strokes. Ideal for those who need deeper work that is also soothing. "Sarga bodywork" is an additional stye of barefoot work offered, utilizing a strap wrapped below the table instead of bars above the table. Sarga allows for slightly more pressure and appropriate angles for addressing certain issues. They each have their benefits and can both be used during a session depending on the client's needs. Neurostructural/Trigger Point/Myofascial Release Areas of chronic pain or injury rehab requires special attention. Neurostructural work involves working with both the mind and the body to activate motor patterns during treatment (aka active release techniques -- you will be moving). Trigger point involves deep, localized pressure to destimulate an overactive muscle. Myofascial Release involves long duration holds, pulling, stretches and traction to change the very structure of your tissue. Work with troubled areas requires time - 90 minutes on the shoulders or hips/low back alone is not an unreasonable expectation to get a result. Cupping Therapy Cupping is a traditional healing modality in Chinese Medicine. It involves applying a small vacuum on acupressure points or areas of muscle tension, using a cup of about 3" diameter. The vacuum increases circulation of blood and lymph beyond the levels of massage alone. It also stimulates nervous tension at the level of a "Good hurt" and signals the body to release muscle tension. Light bruising should be expected but it occurs only in the surface layers of tissue. Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Style Massage Lomi lomi is a luxurious style that uses the forearms to subtly yet effectively release deep muscle tension. Pressure is increased gradually with full-limb and full body strokes to warm, stretch and open the surface layers. Then knots and deeper layers are worked with kneading, trigger point and myofascial release. Major muscle groups in the back, glutes, legs and shoulders are the focus of this massage. |
